Lesson Plans

The lesson plans shown so far could really be useful to enhance learning of a subject in the classroom. Tanner and Carmen's lesson plan was full of facts that would be helpful in an English class. The way they set up their powerpoint was definetly for a mature audience and well suited for secondary level. It incorporated technology in the activity of the online scavenger hunt they asked us, as students, to do. It gave me a look at what life was like during that tragic time.





As far as the personality test goes, I think it would be a good idea to see what kinds of personalities your students have in order to able to teach your classroom effectively. It would be an activity that would allow the students to share their personality types with eachother, sort of like a first day icebreaker. I thought it was interesting taking that test to find out which famous person shared my personality type.



Gabe and I created a lesson plan targeted for second and third grade students. It would be useful becausse it would be fun to watch the movie and let students work as a whole to learn the 50 states. The movie really seemed to target that age group.


The lesson plan that was geared towards ag in the special education setting was a new twist. I've never heard of that idea before so it was all new and exciting to me. I am all for making gifted children more comfortable in the classroom setting, and like they said it is so important to pace yourself during a lesson.

Allison and her partner's lesson plan was cute, and it was quite similar to ours. I'm all for incorporating fun movies into the lesson plan. There is nothing better than learning the hokey pokey! :) It gets the students' attention and it will help them re,meber what was tought.

VoiceThread

This website is really interesting. It's easy to participate using VoiceThread, which would be convenient for students. I could see my Biology students using this to comment on different charts and things. It doesn't take long to become a user and anyone can use it. This web site wuld particularly benfit high school and college students because it is a little more advanced. It's easy to comment and if you decide to delete your comment then it's easy to do that too.

Using Publisher is very convenient. It already has premade layouts for brochures and lots of other things. I am not very creative when it comes to making things like brochures so using Publisher had greta benefits for me. It was a fun activity this week. Making a brochure for my future classroom made me that much more excited to think about only having a couple of years left until I get my degree. If I had my choice when it came to making things on Publisher it would be a calendar for my students so the would have all the important test dates and things accessible to them. Th eone thing I was not sure on was whether or not I was supposed to create an entire flyer, front and back, or just the cover.

Powerpoint Project

My partner for the Powerpoint project due next week is Amanda Dawson. We have chosen to do the presentation over the role technology plays in the classroom. Our progess is good so far. We like working together... tw is better than one! It's always helpful to have a second opinion on things and this assignment really allows that. Work gets done faster when there are two people involved rather than just one. She has some really good ideas for this! It will be fun!

Chapter 7 Discussion

It is important for a teacher to be able to successfully interact with his or her students. If it means reaching them through means of technology then so be it, but technology is not a face-to-face interaction and is somewhat lacking in decoding the real meaning behind a student's thoughts or opinions. You are unable to read their facial expressions or body language when communicating via internet or whatever it may be, so a teacher wouldn't really know if what they are saying is something they really thought of on their own. On the other hand, online chats amongst a group of students could help them to recieve constructive critcism from their peers.
The videogame idea is creative and it could work. The article says that it offers design experiences that can impact classroom learning. I think anything that grabs a student's attention has the possibility of being truly effective in a positive way. I wouldn't suggest having students use instant messaging during actual classtime, but maybe as a way of communicating with their peers to get help on an assignment if help is needed. The same goes for podcasts. A teacher should cater to his or he students's needs whether it be through the use of instant messaging, face-to-face communication, or podcasts. Student's learn in an environment that they feel comfortable in.

Delicious Bookmarks

I viewed a bookmark about 10 simple things you can do to improve your writing skills. I found it very useful and my future students would benefit from some of the bookmarked articles on the website. The article explained how important it is for a person to be able to write in order to get a good job. It said that checking for grammatical errors was one of the most important parts of knowing how to write an efficient essay, resume, etc. The article really made me aware of the mistakes that I had made on my previously written papers. This article on the website could be useful to students who were wanting to become better more effective writers.

Wiki's and Personality Test ETEC 424-02

Wikis are so useful! The use of Wikis would allow students to show their creativity while writing. I especially like the editing and automatic grammar features offered. t's a constant peer review of content. They allow constant editing and changes so it is easy to edit ideas if one student suggest it to another. I think constructive criticism is okay amoungst peers, just as long as it is not hurtful.

I believe collaborative learning can be both beneficial and harmful. Some students learn better when they discuss options with their peers. Others tend to do well when they learn on their own with no interuptions, and I was that type of student. But, with growing diversity among students I think it would b a great idea to bring collaborative learning ( such as group discussions or blogs) to the classroom.

I took the personality test only to find out that it was right on target. I think that many students have many different learning styles. They could be visual, kinesthetic, auditory learners, and the list goes on and on. But, if they were to take that test then I would have a better idea of what kind of personality they had so I wouldn't go into the classroom completly blindfolded. It would benefit them if Iknew exactly the style of teaching I should use to accomadate them.

Spreadsheets in the Classroom...

Well, I am a little partial towards the use of an Excel Spreadsheet because, as so many people have stated, they will save me as a teacher time when I'm calculating my students grades. They will also allow the students to look at making calculations as possible instaed of impossible. I remeber in high school that I absolutely hated using my calculator when I made calculations because I would be the one who after spending freakin forever on calculation would accidentally press the clear button. With using Spreadsheets it would be impossible to completely erase your work because all you have to do is press the undo button. The three primary functions of Spreadsheets is just a process of tools that allow the student to practice a higher-order quantitative thinking. Students need to be stimulated.

Brittany Cleere Ch. 6 and Inspiration Response

The Inspiration Program could be beneficial to any student who needs ideas on how to put together research papers or any written essay. My chosen field to teach is Biology, and although students don't tend to write an entirely large amount of essays in Biology, sometimes they might be required to write reserach papers and this program I find essential for mastering a good research paper. It gives the student ideas on what proper tools to use in the classroom.

The Science section of the TAKS test requires students to be fimiliar with graphs, maps, and charts so I think that online concept maps would be a good thing for them to get familiar with. Concept maps provide learners with a tool used for helping students to relate given objects and builds mental pictures. It is a process of identifying important concepts, arranging those concepts, identifying relationships among those concepts, and labeling the nature of the relationships among those concepts. This system would be very beneficial to my future students in order to excell on the TAKS. By the use of blogs, students can chat with their peers and help eachother revise their writing, if needed. Time is very limited in the classroom, and kids love the computer so why not let them help eachother through the use of blogs.

What do you think about using blogs? What and how do you think blogs would be useful for education? Some people think using blogs in classrooms is a waste of students’ time. How would you respond?

Based on my prior experience and also information I read in chapter 6 of the text, I believe that when students craete and use blogs, it gives them an oppurtunity to share things with other students, and even instructors. Technologies enabling social networks and knowledge webs offer a means of constructing knowledge by facilitating collaboration and teamwork ( Ch. 6 Page 105)A form of new technologies known as Wikis offer students a choice to intercat and participate with their peers. I think it would also be great for my future students to be active in Knowledge Forum because it allows them a chance to approach problems, develope hypotheses and theories. I am going to be a Science teacher so this would be an excellent knowledge building program for them. Blogs are definetly not a waste of time, they could make turning in assignments easier and quicker. After all, it is good for students to get familiar with the use of technology because it is growing at such a rapid pace.

Hey! My name is Brittany Cleere and I am a transfer student from Paris, Tx. I am 19 and a Junior here at Commerce. I am engaged to Ryan Southworth who currently lives in Colorado Springs, he attends the Air Force Academy and he also plays football there.
